narrative
The purpose of this assignment was to create a visual narrative within a series of photographs. In my photo series, I chose to create a symbolic narrative through portraits. The subject's gradual transition from wearing more traditionally "masculine" clothing to more "feminine" clothing, as more & more honey begins to cover him, represents the transition from suppressing softness, sweetness, and vulnerability to embracing those things. The message I wanted to portray was that being soft and sweet does not indicate weakness, but is a strength that allows one to be deeper in touch with themselves and the world. I also wanted to show that letting go of ingrained gender roles can be a beautiful and freeing experience.

FINAL
The final project for the course was open-ended, but we had to show that we utilized techniques we learned during the semester. I chose to do a series of fashion portraits. For these photos, I was very intentional with the styling, props, angles, and composition. I wanted to show the ways that color coordination and accessorizing can really bring together a simple outfit and make it stand out, while also showing how intentionally composing different visual elements in photos can make them strong. I also wanted to highlight my friend Nick (the model) as someone who is very knowledgeable about fashion and styling.
